Undertaker: Once You Get Buried Alive, You Can’t Just Get Unburied
The Undertaker reflects on getting buried alive.
There have been five Buried Alive Matches in WWE history. Undertaker was in all five. The match type debuted at WWE In Your House in 1996, when The Undertaker defeated Mankind. However, even on that night, ‘Taker was the one who finished the evening buried in the dirt.
During the latest episode of the Six Feet Under podcast, Michelle McCool, Undertaker’s wife, joked about having to wait for him to be unburied one night before they could leave a venue. ‘Taker then reflected on usually being the one to be buried alive and quipped about not being able to rise from the grave with the audience still in the arena.
“I don’t think I ever won a Buried Alive Match. But, you know, once you get buried, you can’t just get unburied. You have to wait till everybody’s out of the arena, then you start digging them out.”
Being buried alive is a patient man's game… šā°ļø

Undertaker did not lose every Buried Alive Match. In addition to winning the inaugural one against Mankind, he and Big Show defeated Mankind and The Rock on an episode of SmackDown in 1999 to win the WWE World Tag Team Championships. That was the only Buried Alive Match ever held on free TV.
Undertaker did lose Buried Alive Matches to Stone Cold Steve Austin, Vince McMahon, and Kane. The match with Kane, which was held at WWE Bragging Rights 2010, is the last Buried Alive Match WWE has promoted as of this writing.
Also on the podcast, Kurt Angle and The Undertaker discussed rumors that Angle was considered to end The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania in 2006. Learn more about that here.
