Ultimo Guerrero Reflects On Winning MLW National Openweight Title In Arena Mexico

Ultimo Guerrero discusses winning the MLW National Openweight Championship.
A legend in the world of Lucha Libre, Ultimo Guerrero is the current MLW National Openweight Champion. He defeated Matthew Justice to win that title in Arena Mexico on May 2, 2025. While he won’t rank this championship victory higher than any others in his career, he is honored to get the opportunity to represent CMLL and his culture in MLW.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Fightful Español’s Luis Pulido, Guerrero reflected on the opportunity to win a championship on his home turf. He also said he would be willing to give Matthew Justice a rematch at any time and allow him to have the home-field advantage.
“Well, it is a plus to be at home, to participate in this fight as a local, with all the support of the people, it was a plus. I do not demerit my knowledge, but it is something that strengthens you to be at home and win in Arena Mexico. I have had many victories in Arena Mexico, I have won many championships in Arena Mexico, I have won masks, and I know what it feels like he was a very difficult rival and in Arena México, Hardcore Matches are not allowed. Believe me that was a good thing because Matthew is an extreme fighter, I have seen his history and if he challenged me I believe in a kind of extreme wrestling in the United States, I think it would be more difficult to beat Matthew, but it was our turf in Mexico and we came out with the victory. He has the right to a rematch with pleasure. I am willing to give him rematch at any time and if he wants it there in his land and with his people.”
When asked where this victory ranks among his other championship wins, Ultimo Guerrero said that he believes all titles are essential and doesn’t give more importance to one victory over the others. However, he states that this is one of the highest-ranking victories of his career because it’s the first time he has won a championship for a promotion not based in Mexico.
“I believe that all championships are important, all of them. I don’t set aside any championship. They are all victories at the time. The ultimate victory of my career has been winning the MLW Openweight Championship, as it is the first time I have won a championship from another company. This time it’s MLW, it’s the first time. I think it has history because I have never been champion outside of Mexico and I think this is one of the most significant achievements in my career so far.”
Ultimo Guerrero will be competing at MLW Fightland on September 13. Pick up tickets for the event here.
