Timothy Thatcher Believes Gunther Was A Great Choice For John Cena’s Final Match

Timothy Thatcher comments on Gunther’s success.
Saturday Night’s Main Event was home to the biggest win of Gunther’s career, as ‘The Ring General’ took down John Cena in his very last match. With the victory, Gunther is now riding high as one of the top heels in the world of wrestling.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed for a new interview, Timothy Thatcher, one of Gunther’s closest friends, spoke about the match.
“I saw the John Cena match and I thought it was great. Walter has the mind and talent to get great matches out of everyone he shares the ring with. Obviously, there is only one John Cena and his body of work leading up to the match makes it special no matter who he was in the ring with, but I do believe Gunther was a great choice.”
Thatcher then said that he never thought one of his closest friends would be in that position.
“It is crazy to me that he was Cena’s final opponent. I would never have thought anyone I was around so much would be in that position. The likelihood would be so small that it wouldn’t even cross my mind at all as a possibility. Walter has been a part of so many situations like that now that it shouldn’t be surprising, but still, it is amazing.”
Ironically, Thatcher was at a wXw show the same day that Gunther retired John Cena. The locker room was buzzing about the match beforehand.
“I was at the wXw Anniversary show in Germany the same night as his Cena match, and that was where Walter came up. It’s where we first met. A lot of people were talking about him wrestling Cena, and we all shared the same feeling. Collectively, we were very happy for him–but everyone agreed it was wild that one of us would be in that position. But if anyone would be in that spot, it would be him.”
