The Rock Featured In First Teaser For Live-Action ‘Moana’ Movie

The Rock and Moana are back in 2026.

On Monday, November 17, Disney took to social media to reveal the first teaser trailer for ‘Moana’, the live-action version of the first animated film, which released back in 2016.

The teaser, which runs one minute long, features glimpses of live-action scenes that are nearly shot-for-shot recreations of the first film. The popular ‘How Far I’ll Go’ song is also featured in the trailer.

A brief glimpse of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Maui is also shown in the teaser, although his face was not revealed.

The first teaser poster for the film was also revealed.

‘Moana’ will open in theaters on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. This just comes less than two years after the sequel to the original animated film, ‘Moana 2’, which opened in theaters in November 2024 and grossed $1.059B worldwide.

The 2026 film is directed by Thomas Kail, who is responsible for ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Grease Live’. The screenplay was written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Bush is responsible for writing both animated Moana movies, ‘Encanto’, and co-directing/writing both ‘Zootopia’ films.

Earlier this month, Natalya said that Rock should win an Oscar for his portrayal of Mark Kerr in ‘The Smashing Machine’. Fans can check out her full comments by clicking here.
