Stephanie McMahon Says John Cena Rapped About Her Tuna Fish In Prelude To Birth Of ‘The Dr. of Thuganomics’
John Cena credits Stephanie McMahon for bringing his “Dr. of Thuganomics” persona to WWE TV when he was struggling to find himself.
It all started when Cena rapped to Stephanie on a bus, or plane, as Stephanie tells it.
“If you listen to John Cena, who gives me a lot of credit, his gimmick wasn’t working or resonating. We felt like he had so much to offer, so much potential, but it wasn’t clicking. Somebody told me that he could freestyle. It’s one thing to be able to rap. It’s another thing to be able to freestyle. From my perspective, it was really good. He tells the story that we were on a bus. I remember being on a plane. Whether it was a bus or plane, we were in Europe and I had a packet of tuna fish because I was dieting trying to be on camera. I was eating the bag of tuna fish and he’s walking by. I said, ‘John, I was told that you can rap.’ He goes, “I can.’ I said, ‘Well, do it.’ ‘Right now?’ ‘Yes.’ He started rapping about my tuna fish. It was so good and clever and smart. It had a good beat to it. It was so impressive. I said, ‘John, have you ever thought about doing this on television?’ From there, there were various conversations and many other things that had to happen. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, I had this great idea, and suddenly he was the Dr. of Thuganomics.’ That’s all him, but I was, I guess, the first person to support him doing that on television. It was all him from there,” Stephanie told Megan Morant in a WWE YouTube interview.
The rest is history.
Elsewhere during the interview, Stephanie confirmed that she will co-host Cena’s last match alongside Joe Tessitore. You can find her comments here.
