Sol Ruca Says Stipulations Like Ladder Matches Help Her Challenge Herself And Women’s Wrestling Overall
WWE NXT Superstar Sol Ruca says her adrenaline-junkie background makes Ladder Matches and Cage Matches her dream scenarios. She enjoys the opportunity to challenge her own abilities and, hopefully, advance women’s wrestling.
Sol Ruca currently holds the WWE NXT North American Championship. She won that championship in a Ladder Match at WWE NXT Stand & Deliver. In a new interview on the Going Ringside podcast, Ruca said she wants to be in all the crazy gimmick matches, especially if they involve ladders or cages.
“I want to be in every single Ladder Match, Cage match, all of the crazy matches,” she said.
She went on to explain that she loves heights and that those types of matches appeal to her adrenaline junkie sensibilities and athletic prowess.
“I love heights. I was in Hawaii for a few years before coming here,” she said. “I love it. I love cliff-diving. I used to do that all the time when I was in Hawaii. I think with having those stipulation kind of matches with ladders and chairs and cages, it gives me an opportunity to be a bit more creative with my finish or other moves that I can think of, or just putting myself out there and challenging myself and challenging women’s wrestling.”
She also explained how she gets used to the pain of those types of matches and how higher-stakes stipulation matches help her body adjust to the rigors of wrestling.
“It’s tough. Every morning after a match, you feel like you got hit by a bus, but you keep doing it, and you recover. We have a great facility here that makes sure that we’re performing to the best of our abilities.
“You definitely get used to it. There are certain bigger matches, Ladder Matches, you’re definitely gonna be feeling it the next day. Training definitely helps with that. The more you’re in the ring, you kind of build up a callous for it, and having the medical staff here at all times is great.”
Elsewhere in the interview, she expressed a desire to headline WrestleMania one day.
Sol Ruca also holds the WWE Speed Women’s Championship. She is set to defend the title at WWE NXT No Mercy on September 27.
