Shotzi Blackheart Says Time On WWE NXT Was A Creative High Point In Her Career

Shotzi Blackheart reflects on her time on the WWE main roster and some of the struggles she faced. She also praises her time in NXT and shares how things briefly improved when Triple H took over the main roster creative after Vince McMahon left the company.

Shotzi Blackheart’s WWE run recently came to an end when her contract expired. Now, she gets to reflect on the positives and negatives from that experience. For the most part, she says her early time in NXT was really fruitful for her, as she felt understood by the creative staff.

Speaking on TMZ Sports’ Inside The Ring podcast, Shotzi Blackheart also discussed feeling like she was “drowning” for the majority of her time on the main roster. She admits that she was struggling with elements of life outside of wrestling that affected her mindset.

“I felt like as soon as I got to the main roster, I lost my groove, because at NXT, I felt like everything was flowing for me. Creative really understood me, and every idea that I had, they were down for. Then, as soon as I got to the main roster, I just felt like I lost all of that. I mean, granted, I was also going through a lot at that time. So, juggling the grief I was going through and trying to figure out how to find my footing on the main roster was a big struggle for me, and I never really got to prove myself on the main roster. So, yeah, I think my entire main roster run, I was just kind of drowning and trying to get some creativity through.”

Continuing on, Blackheart says that even with the positives that came after Triple H took over WWE creative, she still felt like she was in limbo for the majority of the time.

“I felt like there was some light right when he took over, like he gave me my tank back, and he let me be Shotzi Blackheart again. But then I’d just feel like I’d get a little, and then I’d be off TV for about four months. It’s hard to get yourself over and be creative when you’re not on TV for months at a time.

One of the highlights of Shotzi’s WWE run was the camaraderie she shared in the women’s locker room, despite the frustration surrounding her career. Read her comments on that here.

Elsewhere in the interview, Shotzi Blackheart also reflected on wrestling UFC legend Ronda Rousey. Read her thoughts on working with Ronda here.
