Shawn Michaels Reflects On Ultimate Warrior’s Promo From WWF/E Survivor Series 1989: “You Didn’t Know What He Was Gonna Do On A Promo”

One of the recent guests to sit down with Chris Van Vliet for an interview was NXT overseer Shawn Michaels. Looking back on moments from Michaels’ career, the promo that The Ultimate Warrior cut at the 1989 WWF/E Survivor Series was brought up.
At the event, The Ultimate Warriors (The Ultimate Warrior, Jim Neidhart, Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) defeated The Heenan Family (Bobby Heenan, André the Giant, Haku & Arn Anderson).
Before the match, Team Ultimate Warrior did a promo, and Warrior spoke passionately while wrapping his teammates in tape. Michaels said the following about the moment:
“Vaguely,” Michaels responded when asked if he remembers the promo. “Again, there was no creative team, there was no writing, there was no anything. You didn’t know what he was gonna do on a promo, and same with Anvil and arguably, same with us. There might have been a quick powwow between all of us but, you just are along for the ride.”
Michaels was present at the NXT Homecoming event and appeared on-screen with Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, William Regal, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.
