Sareee To Defend IWGP Women’s Title Against Syuri At NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling
Sareee will defend the IWGP Women’s Title against Syuri at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling on October 13.
The bout was confirmed by NJPW on October 9.
King of Pro-Wrestling has just had a late addition to the card, and a massive one as IWGP Women’s Champion Sareee is set to put her title on the line against rival Syuri.
The match is the first time the IWGP Women’s title has been defended in an NJPW ring since Wrestle Kingdom 19, where Mayu Iwatani defended successfully against AZM. Iwatani retained the title until April of this year where Syuri claimed the gold for the first time, yet her reign was short, ending at V1 at the hands of Sareee.
On the October 9 edition of Ring of Honor Wrestling on Honor Club, Sareee recorded her third defence of the women’s title against the same woman that represented Syuri’s sole defence of the gold, England’s Alex Windsor. This came after Syuri had challenged the champion, but was told the match would be put on ice for Sareee to first prove a point overseas. That done, our King of Pwo-Wrestling card is now complete as Syuri vs Sareee IV is official.
The two women are 1-1-1 across their careers. A Syuri win way back in 2011 was revisited when Sareee produced her own card in March of this year, but the two went to a 30 minute full time draw. Sareee finally got her first win over the ‘different breed of woman’ this June in a 32 minute 49 second epic to claim the IWGP gold. Now in a rubber match of sorts, who will leave King of Pro-Wrestling as the queen of pro-wrestling?
