Sareee Believes SPARK RUSH Can Become Joshi’s Best Tag Team | Interview

While they’re best known for their success as singles competitors, Sareee and Takumi Iroha came together earlier this year to form the duo now known as SPARK RUSH. And with that decision, they’ve become one of the most dominant tag teams in all of wrestling.
Back on May 5th, Marvelous Women’s Pro Wrestling held a one-day tag team tournament to crown new challengers for the AAAW Tag Team Championships. As the teams were announced, no team jumped off the page more than that of Sareee and Takumi Iroha — marking their first official match as a true tag team since Sareee’s return to Japan. It was notable, as these two have been standing across the ring from each other any time they’d shared the ring since Sareee’s return to Japan in 2023 and, per Sareee, have long been considered rivals.
In that one-day tournament, Sareee and Iroha won all three of their matches — including the final match against VENY and Ai Houzan. Many of the teams in the tournament were mix-and-match team-ups, but it was clear from the start that “The Sun God” and the Marvelous Ace may have found something special. Sareee and Iroha would go on to face AAAW Tag Team Champions Ryo Mizunami and Sonoko Kato just 15 days later on May 20th, managing to defeat them and become the new champions.
The undefeated, stunning rise to the top for SPARK RUSH saw them continue their singles success as well elsewhere. Iroha would defeat Kouki Amarei to win the GHC Women’s Championship on June 2nd on an episode of Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Monday Magic, while Sareee would then defeat Syuri at STARDOM THE CONVERSION 2025 on June 21st. Within a month’s time, Sareee and Iroha became the most formidable force not only in Joshi wrestling but in the professional wrestling world.
SPARK RUSH has rolled on as a duo with an undefeated record of 6-0 — including a victory at Sareee-ISM Chapter VIII against H.A.T.E.’s Saya Kamitani and Natsuko Tora. Their toughest test, however, came at Marvelous’ August 8th Korakuen Hall show, when they’d take on Team 200kg’s Chihiro Hashimoto and Yuu. The team has been the most accomplished Joshi tag team — winning seven different championships dating back to 2020, and are the current reigning Sendai Girls Tag Team Champions.
The match was ultimately the first blemish on the record of SPARK RUSH’s time as a tag team, but they didn’t lose. The two teams wrestled to an intense 30-minute time-limit draw in the main event, proving that despite Sareee and Iroha’s limited experience together, they’re at the level of arguably Joshi’s best tag team of the 2020s.
Speaking with me regarding the match result, Sareee notes that, despite the draw, it was a great sign for her and Iroha that they managed to match them from bell-to-bell.
“(Chihiro) Hashimoto has been a long-time rival of mine,” Sareee said. “It’s good for me in a way, because every time we have a match, I feel that I don’t want to lose, and she is the opponent I can always have a match going with full force.
“We didn’t win, but didn’t lose either. They have been one of the best tag teams for Joshi for a while, but our tag team just started. I know our tag team will improve even more and become the strongest Joshi tag team.”
The work doesn’t stop there for SPARK RUSH. Despite their dominance to this point, the AAAW Tag Team Champions want to use every match they have to take a step forward. Sareee believes their experience as rivals is what makes them better.
“The more matches we have, the better tag team we are becoming,” Sareee told me. “Because we have been long-time rivals, we understand each other and by having more matches, we are improving the bond and knowledge even more.”
Asking Sareee about the mission of SPARK RUSH, she kept it short but simple.
“Keep winning and defending our title. Becoming the best tag team in Joshi and proving it.”
With their clear success through their first seven matches as a duo, it certainly looks as though Sareee and Iroha won’t stop until they can truly prove their level of greatness against the best that the entire scene has to offer.
Be sure to check back into Fightful tomorrow for my continued conversations with Sareee, as she will share her thoughts on becoming STARDOM’s top villain throughout the 5STAR Grand Prix.
Sareee will continue her 5STAR Grand Prix run this Wednesday as the playoffs for the tournament kick off. With 11 points, “The Sun God” captured one of the four byes on the night. Sareee will await the winner of Ami Sohrei and Momo Watanabe, with the opportunity to lock in her shot at the semifinals.
