Samoa Joe Says He Is ‘Most Likely’ Done Wrestling When His Current AEW Contract Expires, ‘It Might Be A Surprise. One Day I’m Gone’

In an April interview with Chris Van Vliet, Samoa Joe stated that he didn’t have a retirement date in mind, but that it would be sooner rather than later. He noted his retirement date was likely based on when his contract ends.

Speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, Joe was asked if that is still the plan.

“I’d say most likely. Honestly, for a lot of reasons, most of them are responsible. You never want to outstay your welcome in this industry. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been involved for 25 years now. The other thing too is, I think many of us want to preserve what we can of our health. It is something that is probably the most likely scenario, but it is an unusual work and unusual opportunities come up, so we’ll see,” he said.

Asked if there was now a date in mind, Joe replied, “No, not at all. It might be a surprise. It might just be one day I’m gone and we’ll leave it at that. I’m not as ceremonial as everybody else.”

Joe is set to challenge Hangman Page for the AEW World Title at AEW WrestleDream on Saturday.
