Rob Van Dam Says He Was In Talks To Wrestle John Cena Before Injury
Rob Van Dam claims he was in talks to wrestle John Cena one more time during Cena’s retirement tour.
Rob Van Dam and John Cena only wrestled on one major pay-per-view. However, that match at ECW One Night Stand 2006 was one of the most iconic of Cena’s career and also the only time that RVD ever won the WWE Championship. In 2025, almost 20 years after that iconic match, Cena embarked on his retirement tour. Now, RVD says he was potentially going to be a part of the retirement tour prior to his recent injury.
Rob Van Dam told TMZ Sports’ Inside The Ring podcast that a match almost came together before he suffered a double heel fracture.
“Let me tell you this, I wanted to be one of the return matches for John Cena and his retirement tour. I was talking to them. There was a lot of interest; without giving away too many details, we were probably going to do it. Then I broke my heels.”
