Persephone Reflects On Facing Mercedes Moné For CMLL Women’s Title: “What I Left With Was This Sense Of Security, Knowing I Can Hang With A Top Dog”

Persephone gained something even though she lost the bout.

On a weekend during which Mercedes Moné was in three championship matches, her first stop was on October 17th at CMLL’s Viernes Espectaculares show. She successfully defended the belt against Persephone, which was Moné’s second defense of the belt.

Guest appearing on Busted Open After Dark was Persephone, and she reflected on that bout. Although she was on the losing end, she came out of it confident because it showed that she could hang with Mercedes.

“Oh, for sure. I’m bringing that title home back to CMLL one day. But I’m honestly really happy with that match even though the outcome wasn’t what I wanted that night. But, I think what I left with was this sense of security, knowing that I can hang with a top dog. Because obviously, Mercedes (Moné) has a long history, much longer than mine and a strong background and everything she’s done, accomplished. So there’s always that fear of can I hang with someone who’s been doing this so long, who’s obviously accomplished so much so, I didn’t leave with the title but I left with this confidence that hell yeah, I can hang with someone like that.”

The day after retaining her CMLL Women’s Title, Moné competed at AEW WrestleDream and won the Interim ROH Women’s World Title from Mina Shirakawa.

She closed the weekend by competing in Canada for the Winnipeg Pro Wrestling promotion, where she bested Jody Threat to become the promotion’s new Women’s Champion.
