MVP reveals how he was originally planned to win the IMPACT World Title before he suffered a knee injury.

In June of 2014, Bobby Lashley would come in to IMPACT Wrestling and would end up capturing the World Championship from Eric Young, with MVP bringing Lashley into the promotion and striking up a partnership with the former WWE superstar. For MVP, the moment came at a price, as a knee injury forced plans to be changed.

While speaking to CHGO Wrestling in a new interview, MVP noted that he was originally set to win the IMPACT World Championship until a knee injury forced the promotion to change plans.

“I appreciate the fact that a lot of people feel that I should have held a few world championships along the way in my career. But the one time that for sure I was going to was during my time at IMPACT, and a week or two before, I was working on an independent wrestling show in the U.K., and I blew out my knee. I was hobbling on crutches and trying to see if I would heal in time enough. Because,  I don’t know what the injury was because I didn’t get an MRI, but I couldn’t walk, and then a few weeks later, I was okay and at the time, management at IMPACT asked me about my relationship with Bobby Lashley. I said ‘that’s my dude man’,  ‘how would you feel about us bringing in Lashley and doing an angle where you bring him in to wrestle in your place.’ I was like, ‘run it, that’s my guy,’ and what we decided to do was, I opted to step aside and instead of me winning the title or us putting it off and waiting, I let Bobby come in, let me bring Bobby in. Let Bobby win the title and then at the time it was me, Bobby, and Kenny King. I can do the whole angle where this is our title. We won this title. It’s a really cool story because I stepped to the side, put my ego to the side for Bobby to have the title, and that relationship worked exceptionally well. Here we are a decade later, still making money with that tandem. So it was really cool how, we say in our business, cards are subject to change. But you’ve got to be able to adapt and overcome and in that situation, you know I dare say again, putting my ego to the side, Bobby winning the title and us having the the the business relationship that we’ve had from that point forward worked out better.”

Previously, MVP has noted that his criminal record cost him a WWE World Championship reign. You can read more about that here.
