The overlap between wrestlers also being football players is one that has been well documented over the years, with several wrestlers turning to the industry after falling short on possibly going pro in the NFL. In addition, several established players have featured on wrestling programming, taking to the sport quite quickly.
While speaking to Ross Tucker in a new interview, MJF noted that he feels like he ‘genuinely would have had a shot’ for going pro with special teams.
“I was a scouted Division 1 middle linebacker. I broke the record in tackling at my high school with 115 tackles in one season. I got to play against some really serious guys. I believe two or three of them made it to the pros. I think that I would have genuinely had a shot, especially if I went for special teams. But realistically, what I wanted to do more than anything was professional wrestling. You can find my Huddle video, Huddle Max Friedman, and it’s just me tackling people for, like, an hour straight with Hulk Hogan’s theme music in the background. It’s a good time.”
Elsewhere in a recent social media post, MJF praised Booker T in the wake of fan backlash. You can read more about that here.
