Mistico: I Would Like to Have an Opportunity for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship

There aren’t many wrestlers who’ve had more success in MLW than Mistico. The former Middleweight Champion is a two-time Opera Cup winner and is the first Mexican wrestler ever to win the prestigious tournament in back-to-back years.

As part of an exclusive interview with SI’s Sid Pullar III, the legendary luchador discussed what MLW means to him and what his plans are for the immediate future.

“So that’s the reason why every match I bring everything to prove why I love lucha libre and now with everything that’s happening with MLW, it’s so great for me,” Mistico said. “And I want to bring more and more to every show in CMLL, in MLW. I’ve been world champion in different companies and I want more goals in the next year.”

He continued, “I love to be in MLW and also as part of this relationship between MLW and CMLL, it’s incredible the atmosphere that I live for every MLW show… I’m so grateful for everything I did in 2025 and I want more achievements in 2026 and for sure like you said, I would like to have an opportunity for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.”

The MLW World Heavyweight Championship is currently held by Mads Krule Krugger. Krugger became the 12th person to ever hold the title when he defeated Matt Ridle and Donovan Dijak at the 2025 Fightland event.

MLW’s next event is Battle Riot VIII which takes place on January 29. Mistico is not set for that event, though he’ll be in the greater Chicago area on February 7 for the 2026 edition of Lucha Apocalypto.
