Mickie James reflects on entering the Royal Rumble as the TNA Knockouts Champion.
During the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble match, TNA Knockouts Champion Mickie James would make an appearance in the bout, entering with the title to her Hardcore Country music and clashing with old rivals in the bout.
While speaking to BCP+ in a new interview, Mickie James spoke about entering the Royal Rumble match as champion, noting that she takes ‘massive honor’ in being the first TNA star to enter the bout.
“I take massive honor in that. I take a massive honor in that, and obviously there was a lot of things that had to happen for that bit of magic to open and unlock that door, and I think a relationship with TNA and WWE has been something that people have talked about for a long time. If you look at the roster even of WWE, a lot of people came from TNA, you know, like there is a big relationship there and I love them both. They’ve been both very important in my career, like they’re both my lovers. I’ve gone to one back it’s a toxic relationship but seriously it’s like I think I’m grateful for the opportunity you know, sometimes you don’t realize like the magic or the importance that a moment is going to have, especially when you’re fighting for it and sometimes fighting for it for different reasons, but the significance of that moment. in the moment, right? So as I’m coming out and fought for all that stuff of like, I want them to play my music. I want to be Hardcore Country. I want to represent TNA. I want to be called the Knockouts Champion. I want to come out with the title, and then even like little things that people don’t really know, like it almost- that title coming out almost didn’t happen. My music was questionable, you know, like little things that you had to like really go like, no, this is part of the deal. This is what, you know, and for, you know, them, events and everyone else to say yes and fulfill that and then it actually come to fruition and then you do it and then you realize like it was awesome in the moment and it was powerful and it was like validation in a lot of ways. But then you see people, other people and go like, oh no, wait, now Jordynne was able to do it now you know, Trinity went back and it was like this whole big moment there Joe Hendry gets his moment and then now this relationship with the NXT brand and TNA is happening. Now TNA has this awesome AMC deal. Like it’s just like the energy and the positivity. Like it’s just amazing and it’s you know, so I played like a little part in that.”
Elsewhere in another recent interview, Mickie James spoke about asking Tommy Dreamer to give a chance to Ash By Elegance. You can read more about that here.
