Maven Discusses Differences In Pay Between His Era And Modern WWE

When it comes to making a living, pro wrestling is certainly one way to do it. On his YouTube channel, Maven recently participated in a Q&A that featured a question regarding his WWE paychecks.

While he was retired for quite some time after his WWE and short TNA run, Maven peaked just after the Attitude Era. Looking at the Ruthless Aggression Era to the now, it’s clear just how many differences there truly are.

“During my time, we would get paid per match,” Maven said. “There were several factors that would determine exactly how much. Factors such as your placement on the card, the venue, how many tickets were sold, and, the type of match. If it was a hardcore match and I went a little bit above and beyond, I might notice a little bonus.”

Maven continued, “But, it’s different these days. These guys are on guaranteed contracts and they’re going to make the same money month in and month out no matter how many matches they wrestle. We were always incentivized to be not only at the show but wrestle in the show because we know our paycheck depended on it.”

The former three time Hardcore Champion did everything he could to make a name for himself after Tough Enough. Maven noted just how important it was to be wrestling in his era, something that truly doesn’t matter nowadays. Wrestlers sometimes go months without wrestling, and especially with how few live events there are, he knows they’re making much more than he ever was for way less in-ring work.
