Matt Jackson On Hiroshi Tanahashi Retiring: The Business Just Lost Its Best Babyface

Hiroshi Tanahashi wrapped up his career at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20, competing in his last match against Kazuchika Okada.

Tanahashi’s legendary career spanned over two decades as he established himself as the Ace of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

“The business just lost its best babyface,” said The Young Bucks’ Matt Jackson told Justin Barrasso of Undisputed. “He was marvelous. One of the true greats to ever do it.”

Hiroshi Tanahashi helped save and carry NJPW in the 2000s and 2010s with his legendary rivalries and matches against Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuchika Okada, Kenny Omega, Katsuyori Shibata, and more.

He faced the Young Bucks in a traditional tag team match on two occasions in his career, teaming with Michael Elgin both times. At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025, Tanahashi teamed with Darby Allin, Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi), & Will Ospreay to defeat Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli & Jon Moxley), Gabe Kidd & The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson).
