Matt Hardy Says WWE Tried To Replace ‘Loaded’ With ‘Live For The Moment’ In 2002

The Hardys nearly changed their iconic theme music in 2002.

‘Loaded’ has been synonymous with The Hardys for years at this point, with the song even expanding outside of wrestling on several occasions. As it turns out, the theme was nearly taken away from the brother duo around 2002.

Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Matt Hardy said that ‘Live For The Moment’ was personally made for the team around that time.

“Very few people do. Like you said, everybody knows it’s the Hardy Boyz and no matter what country we play it in, they’ll know it’s the Hardy Boyz. We’re very blessed. That came along, they were just looking for stock music for us when we first started. They played one for a few weeks and we said, ‘We’re not crazy about it.’ Then they played Loaded and it started to grow on us a little bit. I’ll never forget, there was a time in 2002-ish, I want to say, they said, ‘Hey, we finally have new, specialized music for you guys. It’s done by Monster Magnet, a pretty big deal, Live For the Moment.’ They played it for us, we’re like, ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ He said, ‘But this is specifically for you guys.’ I was like, ‘They just really identify with Loaded so much. It’s been with us through the tag team run, tag team tables match, TLC matches and what not. It’s established.’ Then we ended up keeping it and lo and behold, obviously Matt Hardy Version One got the Monster Magnet music, Live for the Moment. But whenever Jeff showed up in TNA and that Hardy Boyz music hit, it was just such a moment and it’s so cool that we can do that anywhere. That’s just how it is. It’s not copyrightable music. It’s just in a library, you just pay to rent it. So it’s a really beautiful thing and we really lucked out in that situation.”

Then, Jeff Hardy recalled Chris Jericho commenting on the song at WrestleMania 33.

“After we returned at Mania in 2017, I remember the first time we saw Jericho in the back, I remember him saying, ‘Yeah, that was alright, man. But they played that old ass music.’ I was like, ‘That music is us.’”
