Mark Briscoe Comments On Jay Briscoe Never Being On AEW TV Due To A Turner Executive

Mark Briscoe comments on a full circle moment from not being on TNT to winning the TNT Title.
Tony Khan has said many times in the past that one of his biggest regrets in the history of AEW was not being able to get Jay Briscoe on AEW TV.
Jay unfortunately passed in 2023, and he was never on AEW TV due to past homophobic comments made in 2013, which he apologized for multiple times.
At AEW Full Gear, Mark Briscoe became the face of TNT when he won the TNT Championship.
At the Full Gear press conference, Cory Leap of the Wrestling Observer asked Mark about the full circle moment of not being able to compete on TNT to becoming the TNT Champion.
“It really is a crazy story where, allegedly, the reason that we couldn’t be here was a TNT executive….” began Briscoe.
Tony Khan chimed in to say, “Who is long gone. Long departed.”
Mark continued, “Ever since I’ve been here, every single individual from Turner, TNT, TBS, that I’ve met, has been amazing. It’s crazy because so many years ago, we didn’t know there was a point where the trajectory of the Briscoe brothers was all up. Some unfortunate comments were made by my bigheaded brother [laughs]. It’s one of those things where you live and you learn. We’re so grateful that people have seen and acknowledged that we did learn from our mistakes. The full circle aspect of it is mind-blowing. It’s hard to put into words.
“When my brother passed, the first thing that popped into my head was, ‘I never want to wrestle again.’ It was a very short amount of time, ‘What are you talking about? No, we’re not quitting.’ I felt him. ‘Keep on keeping on. Make us proud.’ It was quite validating.”
Tony credited David Zaslav for his belief in AEW and changing his stance on putting the Briscoes on television.
