Lacey Lane Reflects On AEW Match With Mercedes Mone, ‘The Opportunity Came As A Surprise To Me’

Lacey Lane reflects on her opportunities with AEW and ROH.
Back in September, Lane debuted for ROH by facing Lena Kross in a dark match at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Later on that month, Lane faced Mina Shirakawa in a match for the Interim ROH Women’s World Television Championship.
“I was at one of the tapings, I was just minding my business. I was just chilling doing my thing and he’s like, ‘Oh yeah, so you have a title match with Mina’ and I was like ‘What?’ I was like, ‘Okay.’” Lane said in a new interview with Denise Salcedo.
Lane then recalled learning about her October match with Mercedes Mone.
“Then the next time in Lakeland, I think that night someone came and introduced themselves to me and then someone else came to talk to me and they were like, ‘Yeah, you got to cut a little promo.’ I’m like, ‘Promo for what?’ I’m just looking at everyone like, ‘What are you talking about?’ They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, you’re wrestling Mercedes.’ I was like, ‘What? Okay, this is fine.’ They kinda just sprung it out of nowhere for me and I feel like the opportunity was fitting because they want her to wrestle someone from Florida. Everyone’s naming all these people and I’m like, none of these people are from Florida. I was like, yes, everyone lives here but no one’s from here. I just thought it was funny watching all that.”
To finish off the topic, Lane reflected on being able to prove herself as a singles wrestler again.
“The opportunity, like I said, it came really as a surprise to me. I think also too, I feel like I got to prove myself a little bit because I had a dark match as well against Lena Kross and that went really well. I think people didn’t expect that from me. I think that’s what happens with me sometimes, like people don’t expect a certain — I feel like they don’t expect me without tag team wrestling and people forget that I’m an individual. It feels like no one really realized way back when that I had some indie dates before I even got to WWE. I did the Mae Young Classic and I was able to showcase myself and I think it’s been so long that people forget like, oh damn, she can wrestle too.”
Back in October, Lacey Lane responded to fans who believe that she copied her ring name from Jacy Jayne. Check out her full comments by clicking here.
