Kyle O’Reilly: ‘I Feel Like I’m Just Kind Of Getting My Stride Again’ Following 2022 Neck Fusion Surgery
He is hitting his stride in the ring.
It was in 2022 that Kyle O’Reilly underwent neck fusion surgery. He would later reveal that he had been competing with a broken neck for around four months.
O’Reilly has been back in the ring regularly since early 2024. He shared on AEW Unrestricted that it feels like he’s starting to hit his stride again.
“It’s funny you mention that and talk about a full-circle moment because the last match that I had, before being injured for two years, was with Jon Moxley… Yeah, it was in Kansas City. It was with Jon Moxley — my most recent match now — so yeah, I feel like I actually have finally kind of reached as close as back to normal as possible. Does that make sense? Because the first few months of just getting back in the ring — and I’ve been wrestling back over a year now again. I think it’s been coming up on almost two years since I’ve been back wrestling, and I feel like I’m just kind of getting my stride again, and as wrestlers, we’re always pursuing the best versions of ourselves and it’s always gonna be a work in progress but I feel like I’m kind of getting closer to how I felt pre-injury.”
O’Reilly was in action on the 10/29 edition of AEW Fright Night Dynamite. He squared off against Jon Moxley, and their match resulted in a double countout.
