Kris Statlander On Women’s Blood & Guts Criticisms: Women Bleed Once A Month And Don’t Have A Choice, To Choose Where Is More Power To The Girlies

In November, AEW held the first-ever women’s Blood & Guts match featuring Marina Shafir, Megan Bayne, Mercedes Mone & Triangle Of Madness (Julia Hart, Skye Blue & Thekla) against Babes Of Wrath (Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale), Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander & Timeless Love Bombs (Mina Shirakawa & Toni Storm).

The match was exactly as advertised, delivering blood and hardcore moments. AEW has always pushed the envelope in its hardcore matches, even the ones involving the women.

Speaking to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, AEW Women’s Champion Kris Statlander addressed criticisms of the match, including the women bleeding.

“First of all, women bleed once a month anyway. It’s kind of an unfair criticism. We don’t have a choice, really. To choose where we get to bleed from once is more power to the girlies. You don’t have to watch it if you don’t like it. It’s quite literally advertised as “blood and guts,” you should expect to see some tomfoolery, to say the least. As much as people might like seeing the guys do it, we are wrestlers, too. We have this sick desire to be disgusting and dangerous as well. This was the first one ever. We haven’t had the chance to let that rage out. Obviously, we’re going to go overboard and mutilate ourselves because we’re psychos and we all love to do that, and that’s why we are where we are. That’s why we’re in AEW, where the best wrestle and the best bleed,” she said.

Statlander’s team was on the losing end in Blood & Guts. She will compete against Thekla in a strap match on AEW Dynamite.

Elsewhere during the interview, Statlander commented on her Women’s Title reign. You can find her full comments here.
