Kris Statlander: I Feel Like I’ve Reached My Final Form In A Way

Kris Statlander is in her final form.
Statlander is in the midst of her first reign with the AEW Women’s World Championship, which began at the All Out pay-per-view in September. This is her second title reign overall in AEW after a 174 day stint with the TBS Championship in 2023.
Speaking with Iridian Fierro of Wrestfriends for a new interview, Statlander got vulnerable and opened up about her struggles with feeling sorry for herself. Statlander also stated that she’s finally reached her “final form” after getting past some of those issues.
“I also feel like I need to stop worrying about what other people have done prior to this. Prior to this, Mercedes had beat me twice and I had no confidence in myself when it came to wrestling her a third time, however I was able to come out successful finally. I need to realize my sob story is over. I lost all the time early on, I had two major injuries and then I won a title. Then, I won a second title. I need to stop feeling sorry for myself because that’s probably what’s been holding me back. I’ve had everything that I was ever told I deserve, that I worked for. I need to remember that I’m in this position for a reason and I’m going into this match with a different mindset. Not in the fact like, ‘Oh no, she’s beaten me before’ and ‘Oh no, she was a champion before’, I’m going into this knowing who I am finally. I feel like I’ve finally reached my final form in a way. She’s said that she’s not the same person I teamed with and I agree because she’s not going to be in there with the same person she teamed with. I’m actually very excited overall.”
Statlander will defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against Jamie Hayter at the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view later this month. Check out the updated lineup for that show here.
