John Cena would compete in his final match in the sport of professional wrestling, facing off with the phenom known as Gunther. The match would be a back and forth affair, with Gunther drawing a lot of heat from the Washington crowd even before the final bell rang and Gunther was declared the winner via submission.
While speaking to Bill Apter in a new interview following the event, John Cena Sr spoke about how Gunther did ‘exactly what he was supposed to do’ at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
“I think they both did a fabulous, fabulous job. Gunther did exactly what he was supposed to do. You’ve got to give that man credit. He was supposed to be the villain and he played it to the end.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Cena Snr noted that he would have changed some things with regard to his son’s retirement match with Gunther. You can read more about that here.
