John Cena Says He Had His First Drink At 26 With The Undertaker
Some legendary drinking stories have been told about John Cena over the years, including one where he ran up a huge bar tab over the course of nine days before wrestling Shawn Michaels for an hour on the tenth day.
According to Cena, he didn’t start drinking until he met The Undertaker.
“I had my first drink with the Undertaker. I was 26. I sat down. [beers delivered] ‘I don’t…..let me go for it.’ I have this wise figure, who is very stoic, doesn’t say a lot, welcome me in. I understand that I don’t do this, but I also understand that I want to do this. I’m okay and I’m going to give this a try. I’m so glad I did. In that one conversation, I see us at that bar, and some of the lessons he gave still stick with me. The two things I vividly remember: Always take care of your crew. Never let any of the boys pay. Never say goodbye. I got so hammered. ‘When is the time to go?’ ‘Whenever you want, just don’t ever say goodbye,'” recalled Cena while speaking to Bill Simmons of The Ringer.
Cena and Undertaker had many battles during their time together in WWE, including a short contest at WrestleMania 34.
Elsewhere during the interview, Cena commented on his heel turn in 2025. You can find his full comments here.
