Jeff Hardy Recalls Incident Where Matt Hardy Crushed Him With A Recliner As A Kid
Jeff Hardy recalls being crushed by a recliner as a kid. The culprit? His own brother.
Siblings fight all the time, but have you ever heard of one crushing the other with a recliner? In a new interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Jeff Hardy recalled the incident.
“We never really had that. The only thing, there’s one that I remember vividly. The TLC match became a thing because of us, Edge & Christian and the Dudleyz, but our first fight, and the only fight I can remember in our childhood, in the house we grew up in, ended with Matt knocking me down and he threw a recliner on top of me. So he had some superhuman strength and he crushed me with a recliner. I just ran out into the woods and had to cry it out.”
Matt Hardy went on and joked about having a Tables, Ladders, & Recliners match.
“It’s funny because we were at that point where there was an age difference. I was 9 and he was 6. So I was bigger and stronger. I threw it on him and felt so bad afterwards. It’s so funny, man. We might run back TLC and just change it to TLR.”
To cap off the topic, Matt Hardy recalled one moment in his career where Jeff Hardy kept hitting him repeated Swanton Bombs that he described as a “crouton”.
“We did. We would always be aggressive. I think it’s a little bit of both. ‘Well, this guy, I can trust him,’ ‘Well, it’s my brother. He’s probably gonna lay it in.’ So you kind of have that. One of the things that I remember so well was whenever I was doing Big Money Matt, when I first turned heel, when I did the double turn with EC3, Jeff was the one that kind of ended up leading me to that. He’s like, ‘What are you doing, man? You’ve lost it, you’ve lost it,’ before we got to Broken Matt Hardy. I remember there was a time we were at the Impact Zone in Orlando and the match ended, somehow I survived in a three way or a match with Jeff for the title. Then afterwards, to send the crowd home happy, he was going to Swanton me. He went and he Swanton’d me and it was a crouton—a world class, top-notch crouton. I was like, ‘Oh, shit. He’s trying to kill me.’ Then the crowd starts going, ‘One more time!’ He went up again. I’m like, ‘Maybe this one won’t be as bad.’ Second time, wham! Same thing. I just felt my guts and intestines starting to come out my finger tips. Then the crowd goes, ‘One more time!’ He starts going up and dude, Sean, I could not roll out of the ring fast enough. I was like, ‘Dude, I have to work tomorrow. I want to live tomorrow.’”
