Jeff Cobb: If You Think About The Future, You’re Going To F*ck Off And Forget About The Present And The Past

Jeff Cobb says NJPW has an amazing guy right now.

Heading into the NJPW G1 Climax 34, there had been plenty of discourse about the tournament and whether one of the competitors could emerge as the company’s new ace following the departures of stars Will Ospreay, Jay White, and Kazuchika Okada over the past year. Yuya Uemura and others have been viewed as young talent who could carry NJPW into the future.

At the NJPW G1 34 Climax 34 event on July 28th, NJPW World Television Champion Jeff Cobb beat Yuya Uemura.

In his post-match comments, Jeff Cobb sent a message to Yuya Uemura and highlighted how NJPW’s veterans had been through thick and thin.

“Good job, Yuya. I know you went to university here, but damn it, I just whopped your ass in your old college town. Where’d you go drinking? It doesn’t matter. We’re talking about the future. Why are we looking so far in the future when we have amazing guys right now? Let me rephrase that, amazing guy right now. You see, you want to talk about the future. If you think about the future, you’re gonna f*ck off and forget about the present and the past. The present is not just a gift that keeps on giving, but the present is a gift for all you Nee Japan fans out there, for I am your Television Champion, and I will be for a long, long time. Now Yuya, I gave you props, but you came up just a little bit short. How many more young guys they gotta put in front of us? We don’t think that they can hang. If you look at us veterans, the guys that have been through thick and thin, global pandemics, multiple testing, multiple isolations and quarantines, you’ll know that we can hang. The ones that stayed can hang, and Yuya, good job, but again, no. Will you be a future champion? Yeah, I could definitely see that. Are you gonna be a champion of the television while I am? For I am the real king of TV? Are you gonna dethrone me, Yuta Uemura? No,” Cobb said.
