Isla Dawn Says Her Wrestling Character ‘Is Just A Natural Evolution’ Of Who She is
Isla Dawn talks the evolution of her wrestling character.
Isla Dawn talks the evolution of her pro wrestling character.
Dawn has always been a character driven professional wrestler, as she has consistently showcased her witchy person in NXT UK, NXT and then finally the WWE main roster.
While speaking to Fightful’s Corey Brennan in a new interview, Isla Dawn was asked about her return promo for the UK independent scene and if her character will be different from the one she had in WWE.
“I don’t know if it’s completely new, but it’s definitely an evolved version. I, as I said, have been wrestling longer than I like to think about and especially like (my) NXT UK run when I started doing the character that is more familiar to people with the spooky and the witchy, all that kind of stuff. That was five years ago, six years ago, that I started going fully into that. I’m a very different person than what I was five or six years ago. I think it’s just a natural evolution of who I am in regards to that character in wrestling. That character is an extension of me 100%, so it can never be fully gone. It can never be like, oh, I’m just a new person. Like, now I’m ta-da. But I think it will be a different, hopefully, new and improved version. But yeah, there’s always going to be a little part of the spewing mist and keeping treasures in boxes. That will never die.”
Dawn would continue to talk about character work, and how she hopes to teach talent about it during her guest coaching spot with Burning Heart.
“Yeah, character work is for me, I think, the main part of wrestling for me. It’s what I always enjoy watching. It’s what I was like- I loved Goldust and I loved Undertaker and I love these like bigger than life characters. So for me growing up, that was always my thing. I went into acting, character work was always like the forefront. So it’ll be a big part of what I want to like teach people and hopefully get them more comfortable being bigger characters and finding what is them, like not just going down the traditional: I’m a wrestler. So yeah, especially because Gibson, again, I don’t mean to just fawn all over Zack Gibson, but he’s also a promo master and then Kenny (Williams) as well, his character work and stuff. I think it’s going to be a really good character-based, and even if people there don’t fully have their characters, just confidence in trying characters and doing all that kind of stuff, because wrestling needs more of that, in my opinion. I want more drama.”
Isla is currently scheduled to return to the UK independent scene for the first time in five years on August 3rd with Burning Heart. You can still get tickets for the show here.
Dawn is also scheduled to serve as a guest coach for Burning Heart’s training camp on August 2nd, where one participant will make it onto their show on August 3rd.
