On August 27th, 2023, Grado would make a surprise appearance during AEW All In Zero. Hour. Unfortunately, Grado would not be able to use ‘Like A Prayer’ by Madonna at the event, but did get the opportunity to smash Jeff Jarrett over the head with a guitar.
While speaking to Hey! (EW) with RJ City, Grado shared the process behind trying to get ‘Like A Prayer’ by Madonna as his theme for his appearance at AEW All In 2023.
“I’m going, ‘but Tony, listen, have you got Zoom?’ And he went, ‘yeah.’ And I went, ‘have you ever heard of the mute button? What you do is you mute the feed, right, and play it for the house.’ And then that’s me. I just need it for the live crowd, and then the bell rang. It’s one of them ones. I know that. I have no idea what I’m going to do. I have no idea. So the next day, because I was so excited about the fact that I’d been at Wembley and I’d done a podcast, and I told the podcast that I went, ‘look, I was in Tony’s office and I was begging him, please, can you just let me use Madonna Like A Prayer?’ And he’s going, ‘well, can you sing it?’ And I’m going- (sings Like A Prayer briefly) Then he’s on the phone with his lawyer going, ‘hey, if he sings it, is that okay?’ ‘No, you can’t sing it.’ Anyway, the next day I went on the podcast and I said, ‘ah, Tony, they didn’t want to pay the money,’ blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Then all the dirt sheets get it. So Jeff Jarrett messages me going, what the are you doing? ‘Why have you just practically buried Tony?’ Because the news is Tony is too cheap to pay for Madonna like a prayer. And I went, ‘but you go and tell stories on podcasts all the time. You make your career out of those sort of stories.’ And he went, ‘yeah, and not the next fucking day.'”
