Gates Of Agony Discuss Signing New Deals With AEW, Remaining Supportive Of Each Other

In August, Fightful Select reported that Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) signed new long-term deals to remain with AEW

The group had been part of ROH/AEW since 2022, and were recently linked up with Ricochet as his muscle.

Speaking to Jeremy Lambert, SP3, and Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful’s In The Weeds, Gates of Agony commented on the re-signing process.

“We had different journeys on that. I was playing the long game, honestly. It was like the NBA, ‘I’m holding out until things are best for me and my family and what I want to do in my career,'” said Kaun.

Liona said, “I signed early. That’s the thing with me and him, even when we first got brought together, we understood what it was. We both had a vision of being singles stars. When we got brought together to be a tag, we looked at each other like, ‘Are you ready to be the best tag team we can be?’ We had the same mindset, but we understood each other’s individuality and what we have to worry about in our day-to-day lives. For me, this is the first time in the big leagues, so I had to lock down and make sure I got my financials taken care of. I’m a father of a type one diabetic. I gotta pay for all this insulin and take care of her. I have all these things to worry about. For me, it was different. I told him to not put any pressure on what he feels like he needs to do. This is a real brotherhood. We back each other and are brothers. Whether he was going to sign or not, he’s still my brother. I didn’t force him to feel any type of way like, ‘Wait, you’re not going to sign?’ We trust each other and that’s why it’s evolving and blossoming into what it is now. We genuinely care for each other and want the best. If we can do it together, great, but if we’re not, it’s not going to be, ‘We’re not friends anymore.’ We’re going to be supportive of each other the whole way.”

Gates of Agony will team with Ricochet to face Hurt Syndicate (MVP, Bobby Lashley, & Shelton Benjamin) at AEW All Out.
