Drew McIntyre Feels CM Punk Is Currently Playing The Role Of CM Punk: “He Finally Became CM Punk With Me”

McIntyre said Punk looks like he misses him.

For 10 months in 2024, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk were at odds on-screen. They feuded while Punk was recovering from his torn triceps injury, and once he was cleared, they had three matches, and the last was a Hell in a Cell.

That program became a talking point during McIntyre’s chat with Sports Illustrated. He responded to comments from Punk that had to do with Punk elevating whoever he’s working with.

McIntyre feels he elevated Punk and added that currently, it feels like Punk is playing the role of CM Punk, but in their program, he became that.

“I mean, the public certainly enjoyed it more than anything I’ve probably ever done. (CM) Punk’s quote is interesting. He elevates everybody even though he was on his arse injured for half of the feud. Drew McIntyre elevated that feud, Drew McIntyre elevated Punk and put him in the position that he’s not been in since the last time he was in WWE. He was just playing CM Punk and he finally became CM Punk with me and every time I turned it on now, he looks like he’s playing CM Punk again so he looks like he misses Drew McIntyre but, you know, you gotta have the right opponent to elevate the feud and CM Punk was somebody that I have personal feelings about, his personal feelings about me, it all came from a real place. So yeah, I gave — actually, I didn’t give as good as I got. I gave better than I got by freaking far. That’s why I won every award that was given out in 2024 and now that I’ve been out for five weeks, six weeks, I’ve taken a step back, I’ve (looked) at the landscape, I’ve seen what’s been happening recently and I’ve came back with a new mindset. I’m back to get what’s mine. It’s time for Drew McIntyre to be WWE Champion again. Get what I deserve, get what I’ve earned and when I’m gone, I’ll be gone. You won’t see me showing up in some spin-off WWE shows, like, please watch me, please remember me. I’m gonna make sure I do everything I wanna do…”

Punk was last on television on the June 30th WWE Raw. He chased off Seth Rollins and then had a run-in with World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.
