Court Bauer Reveals Immersive Vegas Sphere-Like Set Plans For MLW x Don Gato

Major League Wrestling is set to hold its MLW x Don Gato event on November 20 from Charleston, South Carolina.
The event will feature Krule defending the MLW World Title against Brock Lesnar, Matt Riddle vs. Killer Kross, Shotzi Blackheart vs. Priscilla Kelly, and more.
Ahead of the event, Court Bauer stopped by In The Weeds to reveal the new set design they will be testing out.
“We’re putting the ring on a stage. We’ve never done this in the history of MLW. The Opera Cup, which has been around for 100 years, was originally on a stage. That’s where wrestling used to be hosted in these Opera Houses. I thought it would be cool to do that, to put it on a stage, but you have to have something behind the stage. You see what’s going on with the Vegas Sphere. What if we took in the Mandalorian volume sets that were in the background where they did a lot of the filming, where they didn’t actually build a practical set and go to Tunisia. They shot that on a lot in Burbank. It’s the Unreal Engine that powers that stuff. What if we did something like that, and had a wrapping, almost Vegas Sphere, half the building as a video wall? What if every match had an immersive experience where it was themed out? You’re going to see each match have its own theme and it’s powered by the Unreal Engine. When you see Fantasma and El Galeon, there is going to be a pirate ship with a kraken in the background with Don Gato battling it. When you see Matt Riddle vs. Killer Kross, it’s going to look a little like the old kung fu video game from NES. You’re going to have these immersive backgrounds that are going to kind of change depending on the angle.
“This is an experiment. It could suck. It could be awesome. We’re not sure until we try it tomorrow.”
The Unreal Engine powers games such as Gears of War and Fortnite. UFC has run the Vegas Sphere, and utilized the technology to create different backgrounds and settings before, during, and after fights.
