Cody Rhodes: When You’re Just There To Sell Tickets & The Content Isn’t King, You Only Sell One Time

Cody Rhodes’ opinion on ticket-selling in wrestling.

Guest appearing on the latest episode of comedian Bert Kreischer’s ‘Bertcast’ was Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

A conversation was struck up about ticket-selling, and Rhodes parlayed that into a chat about pro wrestling. Rhodes shared his view on the subject of ticket-selling in the wrestling space and said that if the content isn’t king and one is just trying to achieve ticket sales, it’ll never pan out. He said ticket-buyers are supposed to be sold an experience.

“I think that’s the biggest — in this whole game of ticket-selling — is it’s like a bad salesman. When you’re just there to sell, and the content isn’t king, you only sell one time. I remember my time away from WWE, I remember thinking, these houses are great. D.C., 13,000 people. But what’s it gonna be next time? ‘Guys, we’re gonna come back. What’s it gonna be next time? There will be a drop, sure but, how much will we retain?’ And to me, I’d rather go down swinging on not trying to sell a ticket versus let me sell them an experience.”

Rhodes is in the midst of his second reign as Undisputed WWE Champion. As of this writing, his most recent title defense was against Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
