On January 16th, ‘Night Patrol’ is set to release, starring Punk, Justin Long and more. The movie tackles the idea of a police department infected by vampirism, with Punk playing a police officer that has been turned in the movie.
While speaking to Big Gold Belt Media in a new interview, CM Punk was asked about what social commentary was present in ‘Night Patrol’, with Punk noting that the movie covers systemic racism.
“I think it’s pretty obvious. We’re talking about systemic racism. This movie talks about different cultures converging and trying to preserve different cultures, and how different cultures go about that. We’re talking about the people versus the government we’re talking about, you know, Crips versus Bloods, cops versus gangs, the gang within the gang, of police, there’s a lot, there’s a lot going on, I think more importantly, I think the biggest thing that this movie explores is the relationship between law enforcement, authority, government, and the people.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Punk joked about feeling like he is now typecast as a cop. You can read more about that here.
