Buddy Matthews Announces He Is Getting Ankle Surgery

Buddy Matthews announced that he is going in for ankle surgery on Thursday, August 7.

Matthews posted the news on his Instagram stories, taking a photo from the hospital bed alongside Rhea Ripley.

He suffered an ankle injury at AEW Grand Slam Australia when he faced Kazuchika Okada for the AEW International Championship. Matthews rolled his ankle before the match began, but went on to compete against Okada for over 13 minutes before losing.

In June, Matthews informed fans that his ankle was not recovering as well as he had hoped.

It is unknown when Matthews will return to television.
