Brian Cage Was Told Steven Spielberg Thought He Was ‘Perfect’ For His Upcoming Film, ‘He Absolutely Loves You’

Brian Cage discusses his role in Steven Spielberg’s new film.

In April, PWInsider issued a report on Steven Spielberg’s new film, saying that Brian Cage, Lance Archer, and Chavo Guerrero filmed a wrestling scene for the movie. Cage confirmed the news by retweeting a link to the story in June.

Speaking with Wombreezy and The Magic Of Wrestling for a new interview, Cage spoke about the role for the first time, revealing that Chavo Guerrero first contacted him about a television show before recommending him to another person about a different project.

“All I can say is Chavo hit me up about doing a TV show and it looked like it was about to be greenlit and then it got postponed. Then he goes, ‘Hey actually, there’s this movie that might be cool that they’re interested. I’m gonna give this guy your contact, he wants all your information, I’d recommend you email him.’ So I emailed the guy, I go through the process, give him all my details, information audition wise. I never hear back and I audition for a lot of stuff that kind of falls in my lap.”

Cage went on to reveal that Steven Spielberg thought he was perfect for the role in his untitled film, also explaining how Lance Archer was able to secure a part as well.

“Several weeks go by and then all of the sudden, I get an email and it says, ‘Hey, I just sat down and watched all your stuff with the director, he absolutely loves you. He thinks you’re perfect, you’re exactly what he’s looking for, he knows everything about you — your look, your charisma, your personality, everything.’ He goes, ‘We want to offer you the role. Give me a call when you can.’ So I give him a call, again, I don’t even know what it is or what we’re doing movie wise. He goes, ‘Oh yeah, man, we’re watching it and Stephen said this and Steven said that. I don’t even know who it is and I go, ‘Steven?’ and he goes, ‘Oh yeah, the director, it’s Steven Spielberg.’ I’m like, ‘Oh shit.’ Even cooler than being in the film, a Steven Spielberg film, was the fact that he watched my stuff and said, ‘Hey, this is the guy I want. This is the guy.’ That right there was cool, I didn’t care what I was doing or what happened. Then they said, ‘Hey, we actually want you to work with somebody, is there somebody you would want to work with?’ Cause he did some some pictures with Lance and he went, ‘We did see that guy in the ring with you.’ I go, ‘Yeah, Lance is a good friend of mine, he’s my partner in AEW.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, would that be someone you’d want to work with and do some stuff with?’ I go, ‘Yeah, sure, awesome. It was, ‘Okay, we’ll note that, but give us a list of some other guys.’ They obviously went with Lance. The fact that we got to go together and be in this movie was super cool and I’m glad I got to do it right before I got hurt. As of right now, I believe it’s slated for a June 2026 release. I don’t know if that’ll stick or not but yeah, that was very cool.”

Spielberg’s film also stars Emily Blunt, Wyatt Russell, Colman Domingo, and Josh O’Connor. As Cage noted, the untitled project currently set for a June 12, 2026 release.

Elsewhere in the interview, Brian Cage provided a brief update on his recovery from two separate knee injuries. Check out his full comments here.
