Bret Hart: Triple H Is A Phony; I Wish He Was In The Locker Room When I Knocked Out Vince McMahon, He May Have Never Married Stephanie McMahon

Bret Hart doesn’t mince words when it comes to Triple H.

At WWE Survivor Series 1997, Bret Hart was double-crossed by Vince McMahon in the infamous Montreal Screwjob where Bret lost the WWE Championship to Shawn Michaels when McMahon instructed the timekeeper to ring the bell despite Bret not tapping out.

In the locker room after the incident, Bret punched McMahon. Speaking with Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes at a live show, Bret gave new thoughts on Triple H and how he wishes Triple H was in the room when he punched Vince.

“I’m not sure where I stand with Triple H. Just being honest, I never rated him. Everything he’s done and created, it’s all stuff he wrote out for himself. I wish I could have sat back in 1992 and said, ‘this is what Im going to do for the next ten years. ‘I’m going to win every title and I’m going to be champion 55 times or 500 times.’ I think Triple H is a phony in the sense that he never earned it and he never deserved it. He married the boss’s daughter [Stephanie McMahon]. I wish he had been in the dressing room when I knocked Vince out. I wish that it had happened and he was in the dressing room because he might not be married to Stephanie anymore, or it might not have ever happened. There was so much anger, and Triple H was such a slimeball back in 1997. He was a guy that I had very little respect for,” stated Bret.

After learning Bret would not lose the title to Shawn in 1997, Triple H suggested that if Bret wouldn’t do business, they do business for him, which helped spark the idea for the screwjob.
