Ronda Rousey’s biopic now reportedly has a director.
In May of last year, it was reported that Rousey was involved in the process of creating a script for a biopic about her produced by Netflix. Now, over a year later, it looks like a director has been hired for the project.
Deadline reports that ‘Euphoria’ director Augustine Frizzell is tapped to direct the project, and note that those involved with it were steadfast on a woman directing.
The movie was originally tapped to cover the events documented in Rousey’s first autobiography, My Fight/Your Fight, in 2015, but following the rights lapsing at Paramount, Netflix would acquire the rights to Rousey’s story.
Rousey previously competed in the UFC and was one of the first women to breakthrough as a star in the sport. Following a pair of losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes, Rousey would debut in WWE at WrestleMania 34, going on to win the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships, as well as featuring in the WrestleMania 35 main event.
Rousey recently recalled the neurological issues she faced in the later stages of her MMA career. You can read more about that here.
