Kris Statlander reflects on being present while AEW worked out logistics of Darby Allin using a flamethrower.
Statlander has is a wrestler who began her career as a stunt woman before transitioning careers to the squared circle. During her time doing stunt work, she would do several fire stunts, and due to that experience, she was asked to be present during plans for AEW’s own fire stunt.
While speaking to TMZ Sports in a new interview, Kris explained the process that went into her doing fire stunts prior to her move to professional wrestling.
“So how it works, let’s say it’s your arm getting set on fire. You have towels that are soaked in like a fire resistant gel and you wrap your arm in that and then you layer it with like the fireproof suits that like a lot of race car drivers wear also soaked in the gel, and so it’s just a lot of really cold, sticky, gooey layering to protect you. Then you have to wear 100 percent cotton outfits because it doesn’t burn as fast. Then if you have long hair, you would wear this like hood thing that’s also soaked in the gel and then you cover your face and your hands with it. So it’s a really long process for like 30 seconds of looking cool.”
Kris was then asked about Darby Allin using a flamethrower on Jack Perry, with Statlander noting she was present while the company worked out the logistics of it.
“I was there a little bit when they were working on some logistics of it. They were like, yeah, come watch. You’ve done this before.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Kris reflected on ‘jokingly’ being part of AEW’s medical team. You can read more about that here.
