For the culmination of the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble match, Gunther and Roman Reigns would feature as the final two in the bout, clashing for the first time in the ring. Reigns would come out on top, eliminating Gunther to win the Royal Rumble match.

While speaking on the Rumble Recap podcast, Gunther was asked if he’d seen AJ Styles’ goodbye to fans after losing a retirement match with ‘The Ring General’, with the former World Champion noting that he assumes his clash with Roman won’t be his last.

“No, let them all hug each other and cry a little bit, but no. I had bigger things to focus on. I had to go into the Royal Rumble again. I knew, obviously, I was the last one, so I knew what was waiting for me, and as you could have mentioned that too, when I walked down there, AJ took it out of me, and making it to the last two with Roman Reigns. It was the first time with Roman in the ring. But my way leads to the World Heavyweight Championship or the WWE Championship in the future. So I assume it won’t be the last time.”

When he was once again asked if Roman will be someone he clashes with in the future, Gunther noted that Reigns is ‘definitely an obstacle’.

“We’ll see. Definitely an obstacle.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Gunther spoke about retiring legends. You can read more about that here.
