MJF shares how his AEW World Championship has the same nameplate as his first title reign in the company despite tradition.

A tradition in pro wrestling that has spanned many years in the industry is the changing of the name plate upon losing a title. However, MJF is a special case, as he has a unique AEW World Championship belt of his own design.

While speaking to WDW News in a new interview, MJF noted that his name plate on the AEW World Title is the same one as the first one despite tradition.

“So this is what we call side plates. After you win a world championship in AEW, we get custom side plates for the competitor that wins them. Now these side plates are gonna stay here pretty much till the end of time because I’m not gonna lose this title ever, and then this name plate here, funny story about the name plate that people might find interesting, is this was the name plate from the original time that I won the title, and the belt maker, he normally- the tradition is they take it off and they hand it to the competitor so that way they have a way to remember their title reign, and I told him, ‘Hold on to that. I’m going to need it again,’ and so it’s the exact same one as my first title reign.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, MJF noted how he would react if someone told him wrestling is fake while on the street. You can read more about that here.
