Aleister Black names Hayabusa as one of his first favorites in professional wrestling.
Black has wrestled all over the world, originally being known as Tommy End on the independent scene where he made his name. For Black, a lot of his character comes more from music then his in ring influences, as he notes in a new interview.
While speaking to Popternative in a new interview, Aleister Black was asked if the energy he brings to his character was something he took from watching wrestling before entering into the business. Black would also note that one of his first favorites in the industry was legendary Japanese pro wrestler Hayabusa.
“No. I was always, especially going from Europe, the style was very much more methodical, more technically driven. Thinking about the British style of wrestling and the European catch style, which was much more grappling orientated and coming from a martial arts background myself, growing up, I watched New Japan predominantly because we didn’t have WWE back in Amsterdam. So my exposure was also more towards the Japanese style of wrestling and Japanese wrestlers. I will say that one of my first favorites was Hayabusa, who is obviously a very aesthetically driven character and has a very exciting, high energy style. But the correlation of the super aesthetics and that very drivenness of almost an art-like form did actually come more from music and me infusing what I perceived as things like black metal and stuff like that, and like hardcore and the occult into my fusion of professional wrestling that kind of came more from that. Pre this conversation, we had a short talk where like I said, it’s kind of why they coincide with each other so much in terms of like music and wrestling. It lives together, and for me, those elements in particular came more from the music than the wrestling itself. Because again, I wasn’t used to the high octane show that was WWE at the time as I started, and it didn’t come in until like much, much later. So for me, that came more from music at first before seeing it unfold in like the WCWs and the, and the WWEs.”
Elsewhere in another recent interview, Black noted that his character is looking to bring the worst out of everyone. You can read more about that here.
