Daria Rae (Sonya Deville) ‘Never’ Wanted To Step Away From Wrestling Following 2020 Home Invasion
She stated that she never wanted to step away.
In the summer of 2020, Phillip A. Thomas broke into the Florida home of Daria Berenato, who is now going by Daria Rae on-screen and was known as Sonya Deville during her time with WWE.
Thomas was arrested on charges of kidnapping and had been planning the abduction for months. Fellow former WWE talent Amanda Saccomanno (Mandy Rose) was in the house with Daria when the break-in happened.
After Rae lost a ‘Loser Leaves WWE’ match to Rose at SummerSlam 2020, she stepped away from the ring, and that match happened shortly after the home invasion. While speaking to Metro, Rae stated that she ‘never’ wanted to step away from the ring.
“I never wanted to step away. That wasn’t my choice. It was probably what was best for me at the time, so I’m glad people had my personal well-being in mind, but I never wanted to step away. I was chomping at the bit every second I was home, texting the powers that be like, ‘When can I come back? When can I come back?’
Obviously, hindsight is 20/20. But I was hungry, I was in the middle of it. I had loved the angle and the storyline that Mandy (Rose) and I did, including Dolph (Ziggler) and Otis. I was kind of just getting my footing, I feel like, as a character on screen. Obviously, we can’t predict the future, and timing wasn’t perfect.”
Rae is now with TNA Wrestling and is sharing an authority figure role with Santino Marella. There is going to be coverage here on Fightful of the 1/22 Thursday Night iMPACT.
