Paul Heyman Recalls ECW Hardcore Revolution Smashing ‘Every Record That Was Available’, Pre-Orders For Anarchy Rulz Being Extremely High

Paul Heyman touts the success of ECW’s video games.

In 2000, ECW and Acclaim Entertainment teamed up to release two video games — ‘Anarchy Rulz’ and ‘Hardcore Revolution’. These were the first and only games that ECW ever released.

Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Paul Heyman spoke about ECW’s relationship with Acclaim Entertainment and the success of those video games.

“The ECW video game was interesting because it came out from Acclaim Entertainment and Acclaim Entertainment, at the time, was doing the WWE games and they lost the WWE games over to THQ. THQ was doing the WCW video games and they lost the WCW video games over to EA Sports. So Acclaim Entertainment had a bit of a formula in terms of the game and all they needed to do, all puns intended, was ramp that up to the extreme. Nobody really believed in the ECW video game back in 1999 and when it came out it smashed every record that was available at the moment. So much so that they bum rushed the next game, which was called Anarchy Rulz, as fast as they could out the door because the pre-orders—especially from overseas—had reached a level that had never been seen before.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Paul Heyman commented on the unique nature of the video game industry and how quickly it can change. Fans can check out his full comments by clicking here.
