Yota Tsuji Feels Hiroshi Tanahashi Was Like ‘The Ultimate Final Form Of A Pro Wrestler’ In His Retirement Match
The double champ speaks highly of ‘The Ace.’
The 26-year in-ring career of Hiroshi Tanahashi came to a close at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20. In what was his final match, Tanahashi fell in defeat to Kazuchika Okada.
Tanahashi’s performance in the match was praised by the current IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji. He told NJPW1972.com that Tanahashi was like the ultimate final form of a pro wrestler in that match.
“I hit the showers when I got to the back and I was icing my neck while I checked it out. (Hiroshi) Tanahashi’s incredible. Those cheers at that volume from that many people without stopping, it just hit home how much he means to wrestling. Tanahashi that day was like the ultimate final form of a pro-wrestler. And you know, the match was great. Some emotion just boiled over toward the end there (laughs).”
Although Tanahashi’s in-ring career is done, he will continue with his role as President of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
