Kali Armstrong Recalls Highly Praised Match With Kendal Grey, Getting A Standing Ovation Backstage

Kali Armstrong discusses her chemistry with Kendal Grey.

Armstrong and Grey turned heads back in October, as they competed in a singles match for the EVOLVE Women’s Championship.

At this point, the match is widely considered to be the best bout of both Grey and Armstrong’s career while still being looked at as one of the top NXT/EVOLVE matches of 2025.

Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Armstrong explained why she always knew that she’d have chemistry with Grey.

“Honestly, I knew from the beginning that this was going to be special because me and her have great chemistry. We came in together. We started together. Our first match ever was together. So I figured we’d have great chemistry, but there was a moment early on in the match when the crowd was hype. We was just having a match and then the crowd was erupting. I was like, ‘If they’re erupting right here, wait until they see what we have later.’ It was amazing, honestly.”

Armstrong was then asked about some fans that tuned into EVOLVE to specifically see that match, even if they weren’t regular viewers of that show.

 “It was honestly very validating because I know I work hard. I know she works hard, but it’s not always seen how hard we work. So the fact that we’re able to go out there and show everybody how hard we work on a daily basis and they appreciate it, that felt awesome.”

To finish off the topic, Armstrong talked about receiving a standing ovation after the match.

“I think it’s super cool because like a lot of people around here always say like, ‘Yeah, I love watching you wrestle. Like anytime you’re on where everybody’s in the back just watching to see what you do.’ So was super cool because we both came through the curtain and everybody was just standing up clapping. We literally got a standing ovation. We’re an NXT TV having a match on EVOLVE and all the NXT TV people were standing up clapping. So it felt really good. Everybody had so much good things to say about it and it just felt good internally.”
