Matt Hardy Clarifies Stance On WWE Using TNA To Combat AEW

In July 2025, Matt Hardy stated that he believed WWE was working with TNA in part because of the existence of AEW.

TNA showed growth in 2025 with increased attendance and a larger media platform, landing on AMC to begin 2026.

Speaking on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt was asked to clear the air for those who think WWE is using TNA to take down AEW.

“I think, after there were a couple of shots fired back and forth with AEW and WWE, I do think they got to the point where it was, ‘I don’t know, there is TNA. If we do an agreement with TNA then it gives AEW something else to worry about as opposed to worrying about us.’ I think it just happens because of AEW existing. Not saying that Tony Khan started it, but there were shots fired back and I think it was probably, ultimately, a response. In some ways, it’s good for competition and reminiscent of the Monday Night Wars in some way. It’s going to be real interesting. My job, even when I delve into these topics, I’m trying to get people talking about TNA. I’m trying to get people talking about TNA so they will check out the new show,” said Matt.

TNA iMPACT! premiered on AMC on Thursday, January 15.

Matt and his brother Jeff Hardy are set to defend the TNA Tag Team Titles against The Righteous (Vincent & Dutch) at TNA Genesis. Fans can check out the lineup for the show here.
