Kacy Catanzaro says that she still gets fans approaching her about her 2019 Royal Rumble spot.
Catanzaro would make her first big appearance as a WWE superstar at the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble match, where she would end up using her American Ninja Warrior skills to have a unique elimination save spot where she would handstand her way to the ring post, before climbing up it and back into the ring.
While speaking on You Know I’m Right in a new interview, Kacy Catanzaro would discuss the spot and how she workshopped the spot into something she could do.
“When we had been talking about, they wanted to put me in the Rumble, could I do a cool moment? I was like, ‘yeah, definitely.’ They’re like, ‘can you do something and climb the pole?’ and I was like, in my head, I’m like, I ‘can’t climb the pole like that.; But I had seen some handstand things. I tried to like handstand, and then like put my feet under the rope and then I was like, ‘Oh, I wonder if I can like handstand, and then wrap myself around the pole,’ because it’s thick enough. Then, so I kind of just had messed with it, done the handstand, was able to like. do the sit up from there and pull up. So it was kind of like, because the thing I wanted to do didn’t work, what can I make work? It just kind of like came to be and it worked out. I’m really grateful for it because that was like, In 2019, that was like six, seven years, like a long time ago, and people still to this day that meet me, like in all of my wrestling, they’re like, ‘your Rumble moment was so cool.’ I’m like, ‘thank you.’ It’s cool to have like, a good moment that people enjoyed.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Kacy spoke about how she was surprised WWE didn’t initially want to change her ring name. You can read more about that here.
